Now on to the fun stuff …

How to read a Ford invoice

Ford’s dealer invoices are relatively simple to comprehend. There are four things we want to look for on a Ford factory invoice:

  1. The markup from invoice price to MSRP
  2. The dealer holdback amount
  3. The floor plan assistance amount
  4. The advertising association amount

Those are the four critical pieces of information you’ll want to know before negotiating a deal on a new Ford. The spread from the Ford invoice price to the MSRP can be calculated by looking at the middle of each dealer invoice. The dealer holdback is labelled “HB” at the bottom of the invoice. Floor plan assistance is labelled FPA. Advertising association assistance is AA.

Ford invoice price 2021

Ford employe pricing (A & Z plan, D plan, and X plan) are all listed on the invoice as well. The A & Z plan pricing is what a Ford employees (and retirees) pay. For X plan pricing is what you’d get if you went through Costco, or another affinity group. D plan is what dealership employees pay.

Would x plan pricing be the best deal on a Bronco Sport right now since it’s a new model with many dealerships marking the pricing up? Considering ordering one.

Hi Zach. Cool website. Have you looked into having AutoData populate the various makes and models so people could figure out their exact invoice versus just using sample invoices that may not have all the options they want or that the vehicle on the lot has? Perhaps charge a fee for the service, as it really helps to have all the data at your fingertips when shopping various models.

Just ordered an F250 XLT premium with the 7.3 Godzilla gas engine and 4wd FX4 package. Talked to 5 dealers, one was very open and straight up, he had no problem showing me the build sheet with MSRP and invoice side by side. I went in and said straight out, I know what I want, been shopping for nearly a year, if we can get to invoice price plus TTL, no extras I will write the check for the down payment. One dealer was solid on it, the others wanted to play games. I am happy with my deal as the inventory is low on these trucks and finding an XLT with the 7.3 in the color I wanted is very difficult. You information helped a lot. Thanks

First off HUGE thanks. I have a 2021 F-350 4×4 drw ordered with a Build week of 3-29-21 and this has helped me put together a full options price list, And figure out pretty close what % HB, FPA, and AA is. My dealer has a special deal with the local electric co-op membership that is supposed to be x-plan pricing for members but not through Ford. So I got to use my ford private cash offer of $2000. and $250. factory incentive. And they get to charge me their $289. doc. fee. The best I can tell I got the truck for invoice + $263.00 Here is the math. Invoice less my incentives using the invoice prices found on this page.
    MSRP: 80680.
my quote: 73950. My “x-plan” price From the dealer.
Invoice: 73687. From the posted invoice prices found here.
    difference: 263.

    HB 1574.
    FPA 986.
    AA 1177.
    Diff 263. =
Total $ 4000. Profit to the dealer.
My price with incentives $ 6730. below MSRP
Now I just need help getting a good price on my trade. 2017 F-350 4×4 drw Lariat ultimate + more options with 38000.mi
Books show trade should be around 60000. there hitting me at 53000. Retail is around 63-64000.

Hello- I am a recent subscriber to your channel, and it has been a great help! I am on the cusp of buying a 2021 F350 King Ranch DRW, and I a doing a factory build order. So, I have a few questions.

    1. I don’t see the F350 KR invoice here, but I am assuming the invoice price for options remain the same regardless of the trim line?
    2. Also, does the dealer HB and FSA remain constant regardless of the dealership?
    3. When I do a factory build order, at what point does the VIN become known? Will I be able to get a market report in time to make a difference?

    Thanks!

Dennis, welcome to the CarEdge community! Great questions. Yes, the invoice price for options should be the same. HB and FPA are constants. On a factory order entering the VIN in the CarEdge app won’t provide any real insight.

How does one find the invoice for any given Ford? For example, if I see a Bronco I like on the Ford Dealer’s website, how do I find out the invoice price and A/Z Plan price? Is that something a dealer will send you readily?

I can get the x plan from a retired Ford employee. It is invoice plus $275.00. Can I still negotiate off that invoice price as I don’t think the x plan discounts the vehicle very much off the msrp. Love you guys, keep up the good work for us.
