What accessories or protection packages did they require you to purchase and how much did they charge you? They demanded $2,000 for a protection package. This included: ceramic paint protection, interior protection, wheel locks and weatherproof floormats. I refused to allow the interior protection at any price because all such 'scotchguard' like spray chemicals contain fluorinated surfactants which are in the process of being banned as carcinogens. I negotiated the package down to $1,648. All other charges for doc fees and taxes were normal for Chicago, IL. They didn't have the car at the time of negotiation so I got the sales managers signature on a refundable deposit of $1,000. I wrote in "refundable for any reason." To my amazement they got the car in the trim level and color I wanted just 2 weeks later. They had traded with another dealer.
Is there anything else you want to share with us about this dealership? In Oct 2021 when we bought the car this was known as Continental Honda of Countryside. Gerald dealer group bought it and it's now Gerald Honda of Countryside. The particular salesman we had was not very nice during the negotiations but he and a service person were very helpful in getting us setup after purchase. The F&A person person did not pressure me at all for various products when I politely declined them. We paid the full amount with a check so we did not incur any extra costs. The one extra we did accept was 5 oil changes and tire rotations for only $200.
