One Toyota of Oakland has been advertising everywhere, including taking out billboards on the side of buildings, that they do not charge markups/ market adjustment on their new vehicles. But, they have a policy that you have to trade in your old car to buy a new popular model (RAV4 hybrids etc). The issue is: They set the trade in at their prices! And, they don’t negotiate that price. I just sold my old car to a local Toyota dealership for a few thousand bucks more than one Toyota’s offer. I bought one Toyota my offer, they refused to match or even just increase their offer. This sneaky strategy is hiding behind the flag that they don’t charge the new car over MSRP. But, since MARK DOWN your REQUIRED trade-in, it is essentially a markup for the consumers from 2k - 5k I think. Given the long waitlist, I suspect mostly people are not checking their car value before trading it in to One Toyota. I was almost wooed until I check KBB instant offer. BE MINDful of this trade-in mark down strategy.
